How High Would You Like To Jump?

This wall display activity links to the Flea in a Jar Video

Watch the flea video together as a class and discuss how the fleas relate to Tall Poppy Syndrome.

The flea video asks the question: "How High Would You Like to Jump?" As we tackle Tall Poppy Syndrome, we want to encourage each other to achieve big things. At E Tū Tāngata, we're challenging everyone to lift the lid and jump as high as we can.

Encourage students to write down a big goal or dream they have for their lives. Remind them that there is no limit to the goals they set.

Once the goals are written, they can be turned into a wall display. Have the students stick up their own flea so that it is jumping out of the jar, symbolizing them striving to reach their full potential.

Kōrero
Knowing that we have value gives us space to dream and achieve. We can have high expectations of ourselves, and strive to be the best we can be. Whether we meet our goals or not, win or lose, we still have value.

Follow Up
Make sure the wall display is kept somewhere visible to students so they can be encouraged to #TryHard. Continue to have conversations about dreaming big and achieving goals.
