Where does you identity come from?
Pepeha is a traditional Māori practice for introducing oneself, highlighting tribal affiliations, ancestral connections, and family lineage. It situates individuals within Māori culture, affirming identity and heritage while fostering community respect.
For non-Māori, using pepeha promotes cultural understanding, and demonstrates respect for Māori traditions. It encourages inclusivity and collaboration, helping bridge cultural gaps and fostering mutual respect. Further it provides an opportunity for everyone regardless of ethnicity to showcase their ancestral links and connections to any significant places and spaces.
Use the pepeha template to engage with the pepeha process, exploring where your identity comes from. Your pepeha can then be shared with others to build connections, because relationships with others matter.
