Purpose

To reinforce the idea that each person is special, and working together we can create something even bigger than ourselves.

We walk away knowing

We all have a light to shine. When we shine together, it's even brighter.

We are all stars, look at us shine!

This is a short poem for younger students that emphasises how each of us shines, but when we work together we can combine to create something bigger and better than we could as individuals.

Download and print the poem, it is available in colour and in black and white.

Then there are two simple ways to make a star wall display.

Students can either use the pdf stars to complete a self portrait, or you can use the PNG star files to create star shaped photos.

If you want to use the PNG files, you may have a programme like Photoshop available to you, in which case inserting a PNG will be old hat to you.

These instructions are for people who need a low-tech option and will be created in Microsoft Word or in Google Docs. Students could even do this themselves.

In Microsoft Word:

  1. Insert the picture you want to use for the background of your poster
  2. Insert the PNG file you want to lay over the top
  3. Select the PNG file and in ‘format picture’ click on ‘in front of text’; then you should be able to drag it on to the top of the first image.

In Google docs:

  1. Insert the image you want to use for the background of your poster
  2. Insert the PNG file you want to lay over the top
  3. Select the PNG files and these options will appear below, select ‘in front of text’ and then you’ll be able to drag the PNG file up over the first image.
