Purpose

To encourage students to engage with each other in new way.

We walk away knowing

Learning about others helps to show them that they matter.

What do we have in common?

Use this quick game to promote #OthersMatter thinking in your classroom.

Pair up students with someone they wouldn't usually work with. Together, their challenge is to find the most unusual or random thing that they have in common. For example, students might find out they've both broken their pinky toe or have a brother named Ben.

Students might find it a bit awkward to begin with, but they will soon start finding things in common.

Give students a time limit, 3-5 minutes works best.
Once the time is up, everyone will have an opportunity to share what they have found. The pair with the most obscure and interesting similarity wins the game.

Tips for success:

  • Ask creative questions to uncover surprising similarities.
  • Think outside the box! Explore hobbies, family, life experiences, or controversial opinions.
